If you didn’t watch this film from start to end then you really need to. It’s a beautifully directed historical account of WWII. I’ve been a big a fan of Ken Burns for some time and this piece again took his work to another level.

My grandfather is a pretty amazing guy. He’s always forwarding me emails, etc of “stuff” he finds on the web. I laugh at some of it, but inside I’m pretty impressed that the old man has conquered the ever overwhelming internet! He’s worked on our family genealogy for as long as I can remember and I can’t think of something that could be more important to our generation’s to come. I hope to someday take over for him and put the same passion into tracking our past as he has.
Anyways, how does this all relate? Well, he sent me a link to a story he posted about his cousin who lost his life in Salerno in the war. My grandfather posted it at the PBS station’s website for Nebraska. Check it out – From Valley, NE to Salerno, Italy
