New York City and Central Park

September 25, 2007 - Posted by Bobby - No Comments »

Wendi and I headed into the city with a couple friends Sunday morning to pop around Times Square and do a tiny bit of Central Park. We can only do a tiny bit of Central Park at any given time because I go insane with people watching and I don’t walk very far… Here’s a great video of Thoth I caught:

Some photos:

***We lucked out. There was as street fair just a block over from Times Square, a very rare occasion to walk down the streets of NYC without getting smoked by a taxi.***

Field Of Flags – Gaylordsville, CT

September 23, 2007 - Posted by Bobby - No Comments »

Wendi and I were traveling up to her school this afternoon to watch a soccer match and in Gaylordsville we passed a very interesting sight. The local church up that way had sponsored the “Field of Flags” for the next month at its’ location. As we passed I told Wendi we needed to stop on the way back so I could take some photos and take in the idea.

We stopped on the way back and slowly approached the hill, swelling with American flags. One for each soldier that has given their life in the war’s in Iraq and Afghanistan. We were the only people stopped at that moment, it was nice. Very somber to look at all the flags and realize the enormity of it all. The display doesn’t attempt to pass judgment, and I like that. It is just to respect those who gave their lives for something they believed in – for our country and freedom. For just a few moments I was able to push back all the crap about the war being justified, the reasons we are in it, etc.; and I was able to just focus on the soldiers that have passed. I hope everyone gets a chance to ponder the enormity of it all for a just few moments. Much respect.

***this particular image requires some explaining. I posted an entry about Steve back when word of his death came my way. Every time I think of a soldiers commitment and sacrifice, Steve comes to my mind. That’s why my first order of business was to find his name on the list. I only knew him for 6 months, but his passing has had a big impact on me. We were both in the same situation when we crossed paths in the Cayman Islands in 2002 and its’ hard to know what happened to him when I think how similar we were at that time. Call it empathizing, call it what you want, I’m just grateful that guys like this fought for us.***

Summer’s Ending

September 21, 2007 - Posted by Bobby - No Comments »

I love fall. I really do. The problem is, I hate winter. I don’t particularly like to be freezing cold for extended periods of time and I find living day by day in snow is a major pain in the ass. With that said, we went out a couple of weekends ago for one last day on the lake:
