Katrina: Heartbreak

| I cannot imagine the grief that has fallen and will only continue to fall onto the people affected by Hurricane Katrina. I cannot even compare my experiences from Ivan with these people and my times after that were tough enough…this seems impossible to cope with.
To the right is a picture of Evelyn Turner who grieves next to the body of her husband who didn’t make it through the storm (click for full story) “>(click for full story). You can imagine that this scene is played out 100′s of times over today. |

So where do they go from here? It’s obvious the city of New Orleans needs to be deemed a federal disaster and everyone needs to get out of there. Easier said than done. The people will need to be moved north and placed into any shelter available. Open community centers and erect tent cities to provide some shelter from the heat in the aftermath of the destruction. Sustaining life from this point on is the number priority, second to clean up. Clean up will take months, if not years. The devastation is so widespread that a clean up effort will likely take up the resources of our government agencies and expend all of the disaster clean up corporations in our country. It is gonna be all uphill from this point on. |
