Katrina: Heartbreak

August 31, 2005 - Posted by Bobby - No Comments »

I cannot imagine the grief that has fallen and will only continue to fall onto the people affected by Hurricane Katrina. I cannot even compare my experiences from Ivan with these people and my times after that were tough enough…this seems impossible to cope with.

To the right is a picture of Evelyn Turner who grieves next to the body of her husband who didn’t make it through the storm (click for full story)“>(click for full story). You can imagine that this scene is played out 100′s of times over today.

So where do they go from here? It’s obvious the city of New Orleans needs to be deemed a federal disaster and everyone needs to get out of there. Easier said than done. The people will need to be moved north and placed into any shelter available. Open community centers and erect tent cities to provide some shelter from the heat in the aftermath of the destruction. Sustaining life from this point on is the number priority, second to clean up. Clean up will take months, if not years. The devastation is so widespread that a clean up effort will likely take up the resources of our government agencies and expend all of the disaster clean up corporations in our country. It is gonna be all uphill from this point on.

Time to Clean Up

Yeah, that’s my desktop. It’s got five million items on it and four million gigabytes worth of miscellaneous junk…

I’m bad. I’m deleting.

New Technology Fer Da Hizzo

Yeah, so I’m finally sick as shit of the tiny 20″ television in the living room. I went to Best Buy today and used my saved up gift cards to get this bad boy:

Yeah, 30″ widescreen. I saw it in the store and fell in love with it.

It wasn’t in stock so it is scheduled to be delivered to the house next Friday.

Wachusett Mountain – Princeton, MA

August 20, 2005 - Posted by Bobby - No Comments »

Today Wendi and I are summiting Wachusett Mountain. The summit, being only 2000 feet high, isn’t much of an accomplishment at this point but it is a start to getting back into hiking and climbing. Wendi has grown sick of my “Boy Scout days” stories and has finally taken me up on the offer to put this Eagle Scout to the test. We plan on summiting quite a few mountain regions in the Northeast prior to winter this year. I’m pumped to get back into the woods!

Photos of hike:

***A trail shot, about half way from the summit***

***A bee I ran into on the way up. He was a good model***

***Wendi says “I will conquer the mountain!!!”***

***We reached the top!***

***A quick shot from the top. It was a cloudy day, but on a nice day you can see the Boston Skyline on one side and New Hampshire on the other.***

***The north side of the mountain is a ski resort. I tried to ride the chair lift after we found it.***

***I’m a self-admitted geek, but these guys are UBER-GEEKS. There were these middle aged guys with receiver dishes on the top of the mountain. We asked what they were doing and the master of geekness said “Well, it’s a radio competition and we are seeing who is the best at communications from the other mountain tops in the area to one another…” Nuff said…I don’t feel nearly as geeky as I did this morning.***
