I’d like to start by stating that I do not believe that anyone should put an animal to sleep unless it is the LAST resort. Now that we have that clear, I’m about two steps away from that LAST resort phase (just kidding).
Training classes, socialization, and every technique that has been published on the internet has not helped with Manna’s aggression. You have to realize that she is more than likely inbred and was abused and we found her mother beaten to death, so she does have a slight history of reasons why she should not trust people and want to eat them, but now we’ve struck gold. I’ve read a bunch of stuff on the internet about drug therapy in dogs and I finally found a local vet who was willing to assist me, only after Manna tried to dismember her arms. What’s the latest step – Amitriptyline!
It is a:
“Tricyclic antidepressant. Depressive illness of psychotic or endogenous nature and in selected patient with neurotic depression. May help alleviate anxiety component of depression.”
And I LOVE this part:
“Paranoid delusions, with or without associated hostility, may be exaggerated.”
That’s right folks, my dog is on Ecstacy! I woke up this morning and she was laying on the floor with seventeen bottles of Evian and was trying to put my Paul Oakenfold cd into the player.
I’ll keep you posted to see if this helps with her ultra spastic anxiety issues.
